Preakness WINNER
Rachel Alexandra Calvin Borel Preakness WINNER!
Rachel Alexandra run by Calvin Borel is your Preakness winner! Calvin Borel made Rachel Alexandra the Preakness Stakes first Filly winner since.
The Preakness Stakes is an American Grade 1 stakes race 1-3/16 mile (1.91 km) thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses, held on 16, May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Rachel Alexandra (the state flower of Maryland) became the first filly to win the Preakness Stakes in 85 years, beating out Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, who made a late charge from last place but finished second.
The Preakness Winner is Rachel Alexandra jockey name is Calvin Borel trained by Steve Asmussen. The horse owner is Stonestreet Stables & Harold T. McCormick. Rachel Alexandra, who took it to the boys and won the 134th running of the Grade 1, $1,100,000 Preakness Stakes Saturday (16, May) at Pimlico Race Course. Rachel Alexandra ran the 1 3/16 mile race in 1:55 flat. Rachel Alexandra's 2009 Preakness Stakes Payout Odds were 2 to 1 giving bettors $200 for every $100 wagered.
Owners from different horses knew the threat Rachael Alexandra was coming into the Preakness, because some contemplated entering more horses in order to keep her out from the 13-horse field. Rachael Alexandra has now eight of her last 10 races and it’ll be interesting to see if she runs in the Belmont Stakes on June 6, which is third and final leg of the Triple Crown.
Much of the pre-race hype was focused on the favorite Rachel Alexandra. After riding the filly to victory in the 2009 Kentucky Oaks, jockey Calvin Borel decided to pass on riding 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird for the 2009 Preakness Stakes going with Rachel Alexandra.

Preakness Results 2009
Preakness Results 2009
Well, even though I called the winner of the race Rachel Alexandra (along with everyone else), Mine That Bird’s (again) amazing second half sprint destroyed all my combo bets, giving me the rather lackluster result of $152 out, $140 back for a loss of 12 virtual dollars (a big gain of 6 bucks without that superfecta bet! Wheeee!).
Borel commented that Rachel Alexandra wasn’t running the best she could, didn’t seem crazy about the track… but won anyway. Was this hype for the Belmont or accurate? From watching the stretch run of this race, it’s pretty obvious that another 1/16 of a mile would have given Mine That Bird the likely victory – he was gaining hard on Rachel Alexandra after catching up to and subsequently blowing off Musket Man, my pick for the likeliest challenger in this one. The mile and a half length always figures into the make-or-break factor in The Belmont Stakes, and right now I’d think Mine That Bird, not a one-hit wonder, would be the favored horse simply on the basis of these second half bursts past the pack. I could easily see him passing horses running out of gas down the stretch.
We’ll find out in three weeks. And hopefully I’ll do better in picking the likely money field. I think I should go back over my notes on this one and try to remember why I dropped 4th place horse Flying Private from my original field in favor of some of the other also-rans… hitting the superfecta, to me, is like solving the big puzzle & I just always wanna get it right…

NASCAR ALL STAR RACE 2009
NASCAR ALL STAR RACE 2009
Stewart Gets 1st Owner Win in NASCAR All Star Race 2009
NASCAR is all about being the points leader, right? Each race can add points to your score for the season and lead to you winning the NASCAR crown. Except, every year there's the no points, no pressure, NASCAR All Star race, and 2009 is no different.
The NASCAR All Star race 2009 has a unique format, which changes frequently. The 2009 format consists of a 50-lap segment with a mandatory 4-tire green flag pit stop on lap 25, two 20-lap segments, a 10-minute break, and a 10-lap shootout to determine the winner.
No points, though. No NASCAR points to be won. No, the NASCAR All Star race 2009 is all about pride and money, $1,000.000 to be exact. And much like the Masters in golf, the entrants consist of those winners of NASCAR races from the prior season through now.
The NASCAR All Star race 2009 was run at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. For the final 10 lap sprint, quite obviously the most exciting part of the race, the lineup was: Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Bobby Labonte, Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick and Sam Hornish Jr. with Jeff Burton five laps off the pace and Greg Biffle out due to an accident.
And the finale was incredible, with Tony Stewart claiming his first win as driver/owner! The rest of the top 5 in the NASCAR All Star race 2009 were Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.
