NASCAR ALL STAR RACE 2009
Stewart Gets 1st Owner Win in NASCAR All Star Race 2009
NASCAR is all about being the points leader, right? Each race can add points to your score for the season and lead to you winning the NASCAR crown. Except, every year there's the no points, no pressure, NASCAR All Star race, and 2009 is no different.
The NASCAR All Star race 2009 has a unique format, which changes frequently. The 2009 format consists of a 50-lap segment with a mandatory 4-tire green flag pit stop on lap 25, two 20-lap segments, a 10-minute break, and a 10-lap shootout to determine the winner.
No points, though. No NASCAR points to be won. No, the NASCAR All Star race 2009 is all about pride and money, $1,000.000 to be exact. And much like the Masters in golf, the entrants consist of those winners of NASCAR races from the prior season through now.
The NASCAR All Star race 2009 was run at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. For the final 10 lap sprint, quite obviously the most exciting part of the race, the lineup was: Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Bobby Labonte, Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick and Sam Hornish Jr. with Jeff Burton five laps off the pace and Greg Biffle out due to an accident.
And the finale was incredible, with Tony Stewart claiming his first win as driver/owner! The rest of the top 5 in the NASCAR All Star race 2009 were Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.
