In New York’s Union Square (home to protests, skaters, and street performers), a live fight club broke out where ringmasters urged bystanders to challenge an opponent to a momentary brawl. Naturally, some hipsters — clad in skinny jeans and hot-ironed bangs — got in on the fun. And what’s a street fight without ironic uppercuts?

McCain Says Obama Will Change His Mind on War if He Visits Iraq
McCain Says Obama Will Change His Mind on War if He Visits Iraq
After offering to go to Iraq with Barack Obama and pointing out for the past few days that Obama hasn’t visited the country since 2006, John McCain said he was “certainly glad to hear Sen. Obama was considering a trip to Iraq.” If he does go, McCain added, he will change his position on the war because of the success the U.S. is having there. “Sen. Obama was driven to his conclusion by ideology, not by the facts on the ground,” McCain said. “Success in Iraq is undeniable.”
Obama’s campaign said no trip was imminent, but had been discussed. "A trip abroad is under consideration, but there are no plans at this point,” said spokesman Jen Psaki. “Obviously Iraq is a place to consider."
If he does go, it’s not likely he’ll take McCain up on his offer to accompany him on the trip. Obama’s campaign has referred to the idea as political posturing. “John McCain's proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don't need any more 'Mission Accomplished' banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq's leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.
McCain also said he’d understand if Obama doesn’t want to go with him to Iraq, but not to call it a stunt. “It's long overdue – it's been 871 days since he was there,” McCain said. "I don't think that people who serve there would believe that a visit to find out the facts by a person who wants to lead the country would be a, quote, stunt."

Obama eyes victory over Clinton next week
Obama eyes victory over Clinton next week
White House hopeful Barack Obama's campaign said Thursday he was on the verge of clinching the Democratic nomination once his bruising battle with Hillary Clinton climaxes next week.
"I would say either on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, we'll know the Democratic nominee," Obama's communications director Robert Gibbs said on MSNBC television.
"And I can predict for you right here on the show that that Democratic nominee will be Barack Obama," he said.
After nearly six months of arduous, coast-to-coast campaigning, Obama is in striking distance of gaining enough Democratic delegates to earn the right to take on Republican John McCain in November's presidential election.
On Saturday, the Democratic Party's rules and bylaws committee will meet to adjudicate on one of the biggest controversies left: whether Florida and Michigan delegates should be reinstated after a scheduling row.
Then on Sunday, Puerto Rico holds its primary followed by the last two contests Tuesday in Montana and South Dakota.
"And at that point, all the information will be in. There will be no more questions answered," Obama told reporters aboard his plane late Wednesday.
Once the primary season is over, Democratic grandees known as superdelegates "will make their decisions pretty quickly after that," the Illinois senator said.
On Thursday Obama won the support of Oregon superdelegate Gail Rasmussen and according to his campaign, he needs just 44 more delegates to reach the current winning line of 2,026.
While that number could go up depending on a Florida-Michigan fix this weekend, both candidates would still need the support of enough superdelegates to go over the top. But Obama would need far fewer.
In any case, in recent weeks, both McCain and Obama have been pummeling each other and leaving Clinton largely out of the mix as the contours of a general election battle take shape.
Obama, who opposed the Iraq war from the start and accuses McCain of wanting to prolong "failed" US policies, told The New York Times he was considering an overseas trip this summer after securing the Democratic nod.
"Iraq would obviously be at the top of the list of stops," the Democrat said, while scorning McCain's offer of a joint trip as a "political stunt."
McCain, an advocate of President George W. Bush's troop "surge" strategy who has made multiple visits to Iraq, said Obama's possible trip was "long overdue."
"I'm confident that when he goes he will then change his position on the conflict in Iraq, because he will see the success that has been achieved on the ground," he said.
Meanwhile Clinton, vowing no compromise on allowing Florida and Michigan back into the fray despite their violation of the primary calendar in January, is pursuing an 11th hour bid to deprive Obama of the nomination.
The former first lady Wednesday wrote to the nearly 800 superdelegates to try to persuade them she was more likely to beat McCain in November's general election.
"I believe I am best prepared to lead this country as president, and best prepared to put together a broad coalition of voters to break the lock Republicans have had on the electoral map and beat Senator McCain," she wrote.
House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the nation's top elected Democrat who is to preside over the party's August convention, said she would "step in" if there is no resolution by late June about Florida and Michigan.
"Because we cannot take this fight to the convention. It must be over before then," Pelosi, who has remained neutral between Obama and Clinton, told the San Francisco Chronicle's editorial board.
The Clinton campaign said all current polls had her beating McCain in November, and claimed to be ahead in the popular vote by half a million ballots after 51 valid Democratic contests stretching back to Iowa in early January.
Gibbs mocked the New York senator's calculations, which rest on counting Florida and Michigan and estimating vote totals from Obama's victories in four caucus states where official tallies have not been released.
The Obama aide said: "It involves square roots and logarithms and you know, I think there's a computer crunching the formula. And a lot of margaritas."

Barack To School: Obama Visits MESA
Barack To School: Obama Visits MESA
The text of Sen. Obama's education speech in Thornton, Colorado, from the Denver Post:
"It's an honor to be here at Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts. Just three years ago, only half of the high school seniors who walked the halls of this building were accepted to college. But today, thanks to the hard work of caring parents, innovative educators and some very committed students, all 44 seniors of this year's class have been accepted to more than 70 colleges and universities across the country.
"I'm here to congratulate you on this achievement, but also to hold up this school and these students as an example of what's possible in education if we're willing to break free from the tired thinking and political stalemate that's dominated Washington for decades, if we're willing to try new ideas and new reforms based not on ideology but on what works to give our children the best possible chance in life.
"At this defining moment in our history, they've never needed that chance more. In a world where good jobs can be located anywhere there's an Internet connection— where a child in Denver is competing with children in Beijing and Bangalore — the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge. Education is the currency of the Information Age, no longer just a pathway to opportunity and success but a prerequisite. There simply aren't as many jobs today that can support a family where only a high school degree is required. And if you don't have that degree, there are even fewer jobs available that can keep you out of poverty.
"In this kind of economy, countries who out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world. And we now have one of the highest high school dropout rates of any industrialized nation in the world. In fact, if the more than 16,000 Colorado students who dropped out of high school last year had only finished, the economy in this state would have seen an additional $4.1 billion in wages over these students' lifetimes.
"There is still much progress to be made here in Thornton, but the work you've done shows us that we do not accept this future for America.
"We don't have to accept an America where we do nothing about six million students who are reading below their grade level.
"We don't have to accept an America where only 20 percent of our students are prepared to take college-level classes in English, math and science. Where barely one in 10 low-income students will ever graduate from college.

Find a flight attendant job faster
Find a flight attendant job faster
How do you start a career as a flight attendant? The airline industry is a highly competitive business and only those well-prepared will make it past the first interview.
A recent report by the Bureau of Labor commented that "in the long run, opportunities for persons seeking flight attendant jobs should improve as the airline industry recovers from the aftereffects of September 11 and the downturn in the economy."
Employment of cabin crew is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2012. Population growth and an improving economy are expected to boost the number of airline passengers.
As airlines enlarge their capacity to meet rising demand by increasing the number and size of planes in operation, more flight attendants will be needed. However, over the next decade, one can expect that demand for cabin crew will fluctuate with the demand for air travel, which is highly sensitive to swings in the economy. During downturns, as air traffic declines, the hiring of flight attendants declines, and some experienced attendants may be laid off until traffic recovers.
Despite the improving outlook, competition is expected to be keen because this job usually attracts more applicants than there are jobs, with only the most qualified eventually being hired.
The majority of job openings through the year 2012 will arise from the need to replace those who leave the labor force or transfer to other occupations, often for higher earnings or a more stable lifestyle.
However, with the job now viewed increasingly as a profession, fewer are leaving their jobs and job turnover is not as high as in the past. The average job tenure of attendants is currently more than 7 years and is increasing.
Cabin Crew Jobs offers you detailed information about how to successfully launch your career in half the time, with half the hassle.

McCain, Obama fight for US West
McCain, Obama fight for US West
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama set his sights on the US West on Tuesday, saying he would fight for states there that narrowly voted Republican in the last presidential election four years ago.
Obama, the Democratic front-runner, and presumptive Republican nominee John McCain were trading barbs as they began criss-crossing three western states that were likely to be pivotal battlegrounds in the November general election: New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado.
Obama was signalling, even before the Democratic primary campaign formally wrapped up, that he would campaign hard for those western states that the Democrats narrowly lost in the race between George W Bush and Democrat John Kerry in 2004.
'I expect to win them'
"We're going to fight as hard as we can in these states. We want to send the message now that we're going to go after them and I expect to win them," the Illinois senator said on Monday in New Mexico.
McCain, who represented the western state of Arizona in the Senate, said Obama "has no experience, no knowledge or background" on the region's issues.
Together, the three states account for only 19 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. But those votes could be vital in a close race, particularly if Obama's weakness among white, working-class voters carried over from the primary race with Clinton and cut his chance of winning some other states where Democrats usually did well.
The Obama campaign hoped that anger at Bush, combined with changing demographics as new voters move to the region, would nudge the states into the Democratic column.
Different positions on Iraq
On Monday, McCain and Obama, at separate events in New Mexico, highlighted their differences over the Iraq war.
McCain, a Navy veteran and Vietnam prisoner of war, supported a continued military presence in Iraq though he recently said he envisioned victory with most US troops coming home by January 2013 if he were elected.
Obama said he would remove US combat troops within 16 months of taking office, though sometimes he shortened it to 11 months.

Obama, McCain clash over cash
Obama, McCain clash over cash
Tuesday, likely Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama slammed GOP rival Sen. John McCain for holding a fund-raiser with President Bush with "no reporters'' around. Today, Michelle Obama is headlining a fund-raiser in California for Hollywood elites that the campaign did not announce.
Obama has long been saying that electing McCain would be tantamount to giving Bush a third term. McCain moved his Phoenix fund-raiser with Bush to a private home, a maneuver that let McCain invoke the Bush rule of keeping home fund-raisers off-limits to the press -- denying his foes with fresh pictures of him and the president. Bush does allow reporters to cover his fund-raisers held in public venues. McCain does not.
And we all know why. Senator McCain doesn't want to be seen, hat-in-hand, with the president, whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years," Obama said in Las Vegas.
"Our policy is for fund-raising events to be closed press," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, no matter what the venue.
Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said, "Michelle Obama is not the candidate and she is not fund-raising with the president of the United States. Our campaign has hosted fund-raisers that are open to the entire press corps, and we open all of Barack Obama's fund-raisers that take place in public spaces to a pool reporter."
Obama and McCain each put limits on what the public is entitled to know about their fund-raising events. In contrast to McCain, Obama has a much more open and transparent policy, with some important limits.
Obama's campaign allows a pool reporter -- picked by the campaign -- to attend fund-raisers held in public places. A pool reporter is not allowed in events at private homes, not even to record just what Obama says.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said McCain "is the most accessible candidate to the media in this campaign" who spends "hours and hours" each day with reporters, including almost daily press conferences. McCain prefers to "interact with his supporters off the record" because "it provides a nice atmosphere" for him because he is on the record so much. "That stands in stark contrast to our opponents."
-
Obama rarely mingles with his traveling press corps. Michelle Obama's public events -- and some fund-raisers, but not all -- are put out on a campaign schedule.

Obama: McCain 'out of touch' on housing woes
Obama: McCain 'out of touch' on housing woes
Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday rolled out ideas he said will help stabilize the U.S. housing market, while saying President Bush's response was "too little, too late."
He also called opponent Sen. John McCain "out of touch" with people struggling to keep their homes.
"We've had enough of the can't-do, won't-do, won't-even-try approach from George Bush and John McCain," said Obama, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. "We can't afford another president who can't be bothered to stand up for working people. It's time for a change."
Obama said he'd propose a $10 billion foreclosure prevention fund that would help homeowners modify their home loans to avoid foreclosure and bankruptcy or help them sell the home if the payments grow beyond their means. Watch Obama talk about the housing crisis »
The Illinois senator also proposed amending bankruptcy laws to protect people trapped in predatory or misleading home loans and said that, as president, he'd raise penalties on lenders who break home-loan laws.
"Families should not be forced to stick to the terms of a home loan that was predatory or unfair," he said. "It's time to close a loophole that protects special interests while punishing working people."
Speaking at a campaign event in the Las Vegas area, Obama said he supports legislation pushed by Sen. Chris Dodd, a former Democratic presidential candidate and chairman of the Senate's banking committee, that would have the federal government insure billions of dollars in loans for at-risk borrowers in exchange for lenders reducing loan balances that are greater than the appraised value of the homes.
Obama said the plan, which is backed in the House by finance committee chairman Rep. Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, and which Bush has threatened to veto, would provide "meaningful incentives" for lenders to buy or refinance risky home mortgages and convert them into stable 30-year mortgages.
McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, has called for the creation of a Justice Department mortgage-abuse task force that would investigate and help federal prosecutors who are looking into abusive lending practices.
He's proposed what he calls a HOME plan that would allow homeowners who qualify, and are behind on their home loans, to apply to a Federal Housing Authority fund that would replace their existing loan with a government-backed one.
But in his speech, Obama attacked McCain, saying the Arizona senator took too long to form a plan addressing the housing crisis and hasn't made it a priority since.
"Sen. McCain is so out of touch with the struggles of working people that he gave a speech laying out his economic agenda last week, and he couldn't even be bothered to talk about a foreclosure crisis that has put so many families on the brink of foreclosure and our economy on the brink of recession," Obama said.
Earlier in the day, Obama met with Felicitas Rosel and Francisco Cano, a maid and hotel porter he said worked for years to buy a home and now face losing that home because of a predatory loan

Coffee club likes Obama, for now
Coffee club likes Obama, for now
The pack of people running for president has thinned in the year since a Wednesday morning Brookside men’s coffee group told me what they’d like to see in a good candidate.
Push out the political handlers and spin doctors. Strip the last three candidates of those candy wrappers, and key virtues surface for these discerning voters, including character, depth, integrity and insight.
The men who meet now at the Oak Street Coffee House said they wanted the next president to be able to navigate ambiguity, paradox and not ignore the many domestic and international shades of gray. The men have followed the debates and forums.
They know the issues espoused by Sen. John McCain, the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party; and Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, each vying for the Democratic Party nomination.
The men also were clear on what they didn’t like. The U.S. doesn’t need another “decider,” or George W. Bush.
Bush has capriciously created domestic and international messes for the next president to clean up. Education is in tatters largely because of the No Child Left Behind law, which Bush has made a signature part of his administration.
Mike Lawler said educators in schools call it “the No Teacher Left Standing” law, because it diminishes what teachers try to do to get children to be lifelong learners and critical thinkers and leaves educators feeling embattled and alone. They’ve been reduced to teaching to tests, giving standardized tests and students to regurgitating the answers.
It’s great if the goal is to create an unthinking population. But it is setting the country up for failure in the highly competitive global marketplace.
Social Security, Medicare, welfare reform, immigration, dependence on foreign oil and the economy are on a collision course with disaster. So are the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, U.S. involvement in torture, global warming and the sorry view the world has of the U.S.
What the men made clear was they didn’t think Clinton had the political capital to clean up the mess. Clinton’s vote for the war in Iraq was what Don McGuire called “a deal killer.” McCain troubled the men, too. He’s a Vietnam War veteran, a former prisoner of war and an American hero.
“I would like McCain if we weren’t in a war,” Kent Comfort said. “He sees things in the eyes of a military man. He’s very outspoken about our need to stay in war until we win. Defining ‘win’ is a moving target.”
Mike Shea questioned McCain’s “intellectual horsepower” to discern nuances.
“It’s an either-or, right-or-wrong, black-or-white look at the world,” Shea said. “There is a lot of gray in the world; there’s a lot of ambiguity; there’s a lot of paradox.
“Most elected officials are not comfortable with paradox.”
The group thought Obama could handle the problems Bush has created, navigate the ambiguity, work with people with opposing views and elevate the nation back to a position of high esteem in the eyes of Americans and the world.
“This is a lot of inference on my part, but I see him as a man who is, because of his experience, at least positioned to intellectually and emotionally understand paradox and diametrically opposed points of view and resolve them or lead the process of resolving them,” Shea said.
Obama’s popularity and delegate lead over Clinton show that a lot of people feel the same way.

Obama corrects gaffe on kin's participation in freeing Auschwitz
Obama corrects gaffe on kin's participation in freeing Auschwitz
Republicans tried yesterday to jump on it as a question of Barack Obama's judgment. His campaign chalked it up to an innocent mistake.
The latest gaffe in the presidential campaign started during a Memorial Day event in New Mexico, where Obama talked about his uncle being among the US troops who liberated the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz. "And the story in our family was that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn't leave the house for six months," Obama said.
The veracity of the recollection started rebounding around the blogosphere, then yesterday, the Republican National Committee issued a missive.
"Barack Obama's dubious claim is inconsistent with world history and demands an explanation," RNC spokesman Alex Conant said. "It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there's no way Obama's statement yesterday can be true. Obama's frequent exaggerations and outright distortions raise questions about his judgment and his readiness to lead as commander in chief."
Later yesterday, Obama's campaign said he simply named the wrong concentration camp.
"Senator Obama's family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II - especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald," spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. "Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically."
Study: Bush contributors raised $5.8m for McCain
PHOENIX - President Bush plunged yesterday into a fund-raising tour for Senator John McCain, but don't expect to see much of the two men together.
The president held a closed event with McCain on the presumptive GOP nominee's home turf - the first time Bush, whose popularity still sags at record lows, appeared with McCain since he endorsed him at the White House nearly three months ago.
Bush is also holding two private fund-raisers for McCain today in Utah. Those events will also benefit the national Republican Party.
While there has been quite a bit written about McCain's struggles in recruiting President Bush's top fund-raisers, a campaign finance watchdog group said yesterday that nearly three dozen have helped McCain raise at least $5.8 million.
Campaign Money Watch compared lists of "pioneers" and "rangers" who raised $100,000 and $200,000, respectively, for Bush, with McCain's lists of "trailblazers" and "innovators," who raise $100,000 or $250,000, respectively.
Thirty-four people appear on both lists.

MoveOn attacks McCain with humor, foreboding
An antiwar group aggressively backing Barack Obama, Move- On.org, has two new TV ads attacking John McCain - one light and humorous, the other dark and foreboding.
The first, in a takeoff on the opening theme to the "Patty Duke Show" from the 1960s, says McCain and President Bush laugh alike, walk alike, and talk alike - trying to drive home Democrats' argument that a McCain presidency would be the equivalent of a third Bush term.
"You can lose your mind," the singers end the spot, "when cousins are two of a kind.
The second goes after Charlie Black, a top adviser to McCain, and his ties in his lobbying career to dictators in Angola, the Philippines, and Zaire.
The ad calls on McCain to fire Black - and tries to highlight the number of lobbyists in the upper reaches of McCain's campaign. Several have resigned, and McCain instituted a tougher conflict-of-interest policy.
FOON RHEE
Obama tries to link McCain to Bush economic policies
As John McCain hammers Barack Obama daily on foreign policy, the Democrat is returning the favor on domestic issues.
In a speech yesterday in Las Vegas - a fast-growing city hit particularly hard by the home foreclosure crisis - Obama sought to link the presumptive Republican nominee to what he calls the "disastrous" economic policies of President Bush.
Obama said President Bush offered a housing plan that was "too little, too late," and McCain's plan "amounts to little more than borrowing bad ideas from George Bush."
Obama says besides a $10 billion fund to aid homeowners, he supports a plan offered by Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts to create a Federal Housing Administration program to encourage lenders to buy or refinance existing mortgages, and to convert them into stable 30-year fixed mortgages.

Obama mistaken on name of Nazi death camp
Obama mistaken on name of Nazi death camp
The Barack Obama campaign said Tuesday the candidate mistakenly referred to the wrong Nazi death camp when relating the story of a great-uncle who helped liberate the camps in World War II.
The Democratic presidential candidate said the story is accurate except that the camp was Buchenwald, not Auschwitz.
"Senator Obama's family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II — especially the fact that his great-uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald," campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. "Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically."
Aides said Tuesday that his grandmother's brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.
In a meeting Monday with veterans, Obama discussed the importance of improving treatment for soldiers suffering post-traumatic stress. To illustrate his point, he talked about his own family.
"I had an uncle who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps. The story in our family was that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn't leave the house for six months," Obama said. "Now, obviously something had really affected him, but at that time there just weren't the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain."
Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces as they marched across Poland in January 1945. The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum says Americans liberated several death camps in Germany, including Buchenwald, Dachau and Mauthausen.
"On April 4, 1945, the 89th overran Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Ohrdruf was the first Nazi concentration camp liberated by U.S. troops in Germany," according to the museum. "A week later, on April 12, Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, and Omar Bradley visited Ohrdruf to see, firsthand, evidence of Nazi atrocities against concentration camp prisoners."
Obama's mistaken mention of the camp on Monday quickly generated Internet chatter, ranging from puzzlement to outrage. The Republican Party demanded an explanation.
"It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there's no way Obama's statement yesterday can be true," said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

Pay Day Loans
Pay Day Loans
Americans try and manage bills every day, week and month of the year. However, sometimes the budgeting falls apart. Americans can't make it. A gleaming neon light on main street America suggests a quick fix.
The dark world of payday loans has got a grip on Americans. In California alone, there are more centers to get a loan based on your next paycheck than there are McDonald's restaurants. A number of factors contribute to this rising trend. People with no savings, credit cards or other financial resources often find themselves tempted by these online and retail centers.
By simply providing a post dated check with a fee attached, clients receive a quick influx of cash. However, the fee can be as much as $100. The average payday loan comes with a whopping interest rate of 396%.
This starts a vicious cycle that involves desperation and temptation. A CNN Money article interviewed a client who said, "You get a payday loan and you take your pay next payday and pay back the loan. Then you don't have enough money to last to the next payday, so you go back. If you don't pay the loan, they call everybody from your employer to your sister."
The client is desperate to get money, so then they are tempted to give $100 for a cash advance on money they don't have yet. Then when they can't pay the loan agency is desperate to get their money, therefore tempted to make the life of their client difficult. A real no win situation.
Jim Rokakis, the treasurer of Cuyahoga County in Ohio, says there are more "payday lending shops in the state than McDonalds, Burger Kings and Wendy's restaurants combined." Bill Faith, a leader of the Ohio Coalition for Responsible Lending, suggests that loan sharks are cheaper than the payday industry. Faith says, "In Ohio, the number of lender locations jumped from 107 in 1996 to 1,562 10 years later." This sharp trend is an equal opportunity exploiter, from the single mother with mouths to feed to homeowners near default.
All are in line for a quick fix that could turn into a long term and expensive loan arrangement. One Ohio Coalition leader suggests that, "most loans are rolled over 10, 12 or 13 times. That's the business model even though the industry says it's not." A Consumer of Federation report says, "A $100 loan with a $15 fee every two weeks costs 391% APR. This loan, rolled-over three times, costs $60 to borrow $100 for 56 days for the same 391% APR."
There are no easy answers for this condition of financial dependency. Advertising works and people see payday loans as a viable solution, despite the expense and potential long term costs.
Chartered life underwriter and financial consultant Kent Schiner says, "People are lacking proper planning, both short and long term." Certified in long-term care, Schiner helps clients build security for their family and wealth accumulations for college, retirement and inheritance.
A financial adviser for 50 years, Mr. Schiner recommends people follow these guidelines and insights into avoiding the payday loan trap:
1. People have to learn to live lower than their income. It should be a ritual to put away a certain amount of money into a bank account each week. After a few months, he/she has built up a reserve. The key is not to spend the reserve. Advertising works and makes people want to buy something they may not need.
2. Pay yourself first before you pay anyone else. Before you pay bills, put aside 10% into a savings account in order to build your reserve. This will avoid the $100 payday loan fee and the interest from the savings account can build financial security.
3. Parents can purchase life insurance in the event of a family demise. The surviving spouse then has resources to maintain the family's standard of living. Monies received from insurance can be used to help fund children's education.
4. What would be helpful is community activism that can educate the black community to be more aware of banking alternatives that avoid payday loans. The National Urban League, NAACP, churches, and community centers have an opportunity to educate otherwise un-informed individuals not only the effectiveness of banking relations and on the matter of finances.
5. Banks, commercial and credit unions, need to actively create programs that will offer programs that consider the time sensitive cashing needs of customers who have given into payday loans. Most banks, like Bank of America and M&T Bank, take 2 days to clear in-state payroll checks and 5 days for out-of-state checks. When paychecks can't be cashed in a timely way, payday loans and their enticing cash become a reality. However, People's Bank of Maryland makes $100 available for withdrawal the next business day with in-state payroll deposit checks.
Along with understanding how to manage finances better, a bank account increases consumers earning capacity so that they would never have to consider a payday loan. The bottom line is payday loans create more of a liability than an asset. If only everyday Americans knew this.

MCCAIN VS. OBAMA: A GLIMPSE OF THE FALL
MCCAIN VS OBAMA: A Glimpse of the Fall
The New York Times’ Zeleny notes that yesterday's Memorial Day speeches by McCain and Obama in New Mexico provided a glimpse of the fall debate on Iraq. "Will the Iraq war and the nation’s security once again be the chief concern to voters in the general election? In a 20-minute speech, with the flags of all branches of the armed forces at his back, Mr. McCain made 14 references to Iraq. Later, he invited Mr. Obama to join him on a tour of Iraq. (Mr. Obama did not immediately say whether he would accept.) ‘As long as there is a reasonable prospect for succeeding in this war,’ Mr. McCain said, ‘then we must not choose to lose it.’”
“Or will economic anxieties at home and a fierce disapproval over the direction of the country be of higher concern to voters? In 10 minutes of prepared remarks, Mr. Obama did not mention Iraq, only raising it when someone in the audience spoke critically of the war in a 30-minute question-and-answer session. ‘It’s going to take some work,’ Mr. Obama said, ticking through a lengthy list of domestic challenges awaiting the next president, including health care and improving the quality of life for veterans. ‘It might even take two terms.’”
Per NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann, John McCain didn't mention Barack Obama in his remarks in Albuquerque yesterday, despite a bruising back-and-forth last week over Obama's lack of military experience. But in the afternoon, in an interview with the AP, McCain criticized Obama for failing to visit Iraq since 2006. Asked about comments by Sen. Lindsey Graham, a chief surrogate who criticized Obama yesterday for his lack of understanding of post-surge Iraq, McCain dismissed his rival as an amateur in his understanding and involvement in the conflict. Noting that Obama has not visited the region since before the surge, he said, "He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq. And he has wanted to surrender for a long time."
McCain agreed with Graham's assessment on Sunday's Face the Nation program that he and Obama could visit Iraq together in the coming months. "Sure, it would be fine," he said of a proposed trip to the region together. "I go back every few months because things are changing in Iraq," he said. "I would also seize the opportunity to educate Sen. Obama along the way."
In his critique, McCain also referenced Obama's plan for a calendar to draw down troop presence, painting it as an unjustifiable and uninformed move. "For him to talk about dates for withdrawal -- which basically is surrender -- in Iraq after we're succeeding so well is I think really inexcusable," he said.
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki responded with this comment: "Sen. Obama thinks Memorial Day is a day to honor our nation's veterans, not a day for political posturing." Yet the Obama campaign also said it didn't make sense for McCain to criticize Obama for wanting a timetable for withdrawal while McCain envisions having most US troops out of Iraq by 2013.
Also, the McCain campaign continues to pounce on what it believes is Obama backtracking on meeting with Iran's Ahmadinejad. Obama and his surrogates have taken pains over the last few weeks to emphasize they wouldn't meet with Ahmadinejad because he's not the actual leader of Iran. It's an interesting attempt at parsing that Obama's folks are hoping neutralizes the McCain/RNC attacks.
This morning, the McCain campaign notes that Obama -- at a September 2007 press conference -- said he’d meet with Ahmadinejad specifically.

On the Trail, One Aide Looms Over Obama
On the Trail, One Aide Looms Over Obama
In the last year, Barack Obama has learned a thing or two about running for president, and Reggie Love has learned a thing or two about Barack Obama.
Mr. Love now knows that when it comes to food, Senator Obama “eats pretty much anything, from chicken wings and barbecue and ribs to grilled fish and steamed broccoli.” But when he is campaigning in a small town with limited options, a cheeseburger is always a good bet. (“Cheddar is the cheese of choice,” Mr. Love added.)
He knows that “the boss,” as he calls Mr. Obama, likes MET-Rx chocolate roasted-peanut protein bars and bottles of a hard-to-find organic brew — Black Forest Berry Honest Tea. He keeps a supply of both on hand.
And he has learned that all campaigns have their superstitions — Senator John McCain has a penchant for heads-up coins — and that Mr. Obama is no exception. That means that Mr. Love and Mr. Obama, for luck, play basketball every primary day.
Mr. Love, 26, is Mr. Obama’s body man, the personal aide who shadows the senator and anticipates everything he needs — and everything he does not need. He is not a bodyguard (security is provided by the Secret Service), but rather the ultimate assistant, rarely more than a body length away from the candidate.
Young, eager campaign aides are stock characters in movies and on television, but few have quite the élan of Mr. Love, who, at 6-foot-5, is about three inches taller than the tall candidate, fitter than the fit candidate (he can bench press more than 350 pounds) and cooler than the cool candidate.
“There’s no doubt that Reggie is cooler than I am,” Mr. Obama said, laughing, in a phone interview. “I am living vicariously through Reggie.”
Mr. Love, who played football and basketball at Duke, usually starts the day with Mr. Obama with a dawn workout in the hotel gym. They end the day more than 15 hours later, often unwinding before bed by watching ESPN’s “SportsCenter” or that night’s big game. (Mr. Obama sometimes flosses his teeth to ESPN while lying down.)
What a body man does depends on the politician. Senator John Kerry’s aide for his presidential race in 2004 was dubbed “part butler, part buddy.” Bill Clinton’s aide when he was president said their relationship sometimes felt more like that of an old married couple. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has a body woman, the efficient and glamorous Huma Abedin. On NBC’s “The West Wing,” President Josiah Bartlet treated his body man, Charlie Young, like a son.
Mr. Obama said he regarded “my guy, Reggie,” as the kid brother he never had. “But maybe I’m saying that just because he technically could be my son,” the Illinois senator said. “I don’t want to admit my age.”
Mr. Love said he had been hired with “no job description whatsoever.”
“It was just like, ‘You just go out there and — Take. Care. Of. Stuff,’ ” Mr. Love said, taking his time with each word.
Some of the “stuff” Mr. Love takes care of: When Mr. Obama makes calls to woo superdelegates, Mr. Love is at his side with a briefing book, dialing the numbers. When an outdoor speech ended on a windy day in Noblesville, Ind., he appeared behind Mr. Obama as he shook hands on the rope line. “Jacket?” he asked, a coat draped at the ready over his arm.
When Mr. Obama dropped food on his tie while eating in the car between stops, Mr. Love was ready with a Tide pen. He always carries one, along with ballpoint pens, and has turned himself into a walking dispensary of Sharpies, stationery, protein bars, throat lozenges, water, tea, Advil, Tylenol, Purell and emergency Nicorette, not to mention his ever-present iPhone, BlackBerry and Canon Rebel XT digital camera. (Mr. Love keeps a photo journal of the campaign, and has more than 10,000 pictures so far).
Compared with the even-tempered and self-controlled Mr. Obama, Mr. Love is raffish, always joking with the Secret Service, offering closed-fist high-fives to members of the news media and making frequent appearances in the daily pool reports. At a V.F.W. hall in Indiana, he helped out when the senator did not want a second Budweiser, taking it off Mr. Obama’s hands.
Mr. Obama often mentions that Mr. Love was a wide receiver on a football scholarship at Duke who also walked onto the basketball team. At a rally a few weeks ago in Mr. Love’s hometown, Charlotte, N.C., the candidate led the crowd in a chant of “Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!”
After the Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia in April, Mr. Obama borrowed a move from the rapper Jay-Z and mimed brushing off his shoulders, but it was Mr. Love who had uploaded his music to the senator’s iPod in the first place — a silver Nano that he bought the senator for his 46th birthday.
“So I’ve gotten pretty fond of Jay-Z,” Mr. Obama said. “He’s broadened my horizons in the hip-hop world.”
In turn, Mr. Obama said he had gotten Mr. Love into “everything from John Coltrane to Frank Sinatra.”
“I think he’s got the most eclectic music of any 26-year-old,” the senator said.
Along the way, some unofficial rules have emerged between the candidate and his aide. From Mr. Obama: “One cardinal rule of the road is, we don’t watch CNN, the news or MSNBC. We don’t watch any talking heads or any politics. We watch ‘SportsCenter’ and argue about that.”
And from Mr. Love: Expect to be grilled about everything as if you were a first-year law student.
When Mr. Obama hits a rough patch in the campaign, Mr. Love is sympathetic. In college, embarrassing pictures of an inebriated Mr. Love from a fraternity house party surfaced on the Internet. “You make mistakes and you learn from them, and you try to use them to make you a better person,” he said. After graduating with a degree in political science and public policy, Mr. Love had summer try-outs with the Green Bay Packers in 2004 and the Dallas Cowboys in 2005 before being cut.
Which is how, in 2006, after applying for an internship on Capitol Hill, Mr. Love ended up interviewing with Robert Gibbs, Mr. Obama’s communications director, for a position in Mr. Obama’s Senate office. “It’s the only time I’ve ever interviewed somebody whose work experience included the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys,” Mr. Gibbs said.
Sports these days, for the candidate and his aide, are limited to morning workouts. And, of course, the primary day basketball games.
“He’s quick and he’s strong,” Mr. Love said of Mr. Obama. “A lot of people still don’t know that he’s left-handed, so he can get to the basket and get his shot off, even though he’s not the most explosive or tallest player on the court.”
If Mr. Obama thinks Mr. Love is dogging it on the court, he can come down hard, shouting at him to hustle, said someone who has played basketball with the two of them.
But on the day of the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, Mr. Love and Mr. Obama played at noon and kept up an easy rhythm. “Sorry, Reg, I missed you,” the senator said after a pass to Mr. Love was intercepted. Later, on a fast-break, Mr. Obama dribbled up the right side of the court and passed the ball ahead to Mr. Love, who slam-dunked it.
Later that night, after the senator gave his victory speech in Raleigh after winning the North Carolina primary, Mr. Love rode to the airport with Mr. Obama, who was flying to Chicago. Mr. Love was staying behind in his home state to catch up with friends. (His parents now live in California, and Mr. Love managed to squeeze in a visit there last weekend.)
“Michelle was like: ‘Where are you staying? Don’t get into too much trouble,’ ” Mr. Love said of Mr. Obama’s wife.
Waiting ahead, after all, were more early mornings in the gym and more long days on the road.
Hold the Mayo
As Senator Barack Obama’s body man, Reggie Love makes sure the candidate has plenty of the things he likes — and makes note of those things he would rather avoid.
Here is a partial list, provided by Mr. Love.
¶ Planters Trail Mix: Nuts, Seeds & Raisins
¶ Roasted almonds
¶ Pistachios
¶ Water
¶ Dentyne Ice
¶ Nicorette
¶ MET-Rx chocolate roasted peanut protein bars
¶ Vegetables, especially broccoli and spinach
¶ Handmade milk chocolates from Fran’s Chocolates in Seattle
¶ Mayonnaise
¶ Salt and vinegar potato chips
¶ Asparagus (“if no other vegetables are available, he’ll eat it”)
¶ Soft drinks (he prefers water)

Barack Obama and John McCain, Sittin' in Sadr City
Yesterday, in a rare moment when his mouth wasn't full of barbecue, war expert John McCain invited handsome, naive Barack Obama on a romantic trip to a very hot spot...
Republican John McCain on Monday sharply criticized Democratic rival Barack Obama for not having been to Iraq since 2006, and said they should visit the war zone together.
"Look at what happened in the last two years since Senator Obama visited and declared the war lost," the GOP nominee-in-waiting told The Associated Press in an interview, noting that the Illinois senator's last trip to Iraq came before the military buildup that is credited with curbing violence.
Yes, look at what happened. And without making regular visits to Iraq, there is no way Barack Obama -- or anyone else -- could know what's going on over there. I mean, it's virtually impossible to find any information about that country...
Over the weekend, Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of McCain's top surrogates, laid the groundwork for McCain's criticism in a television interview in which he noted Obama's absence from Iraq and floated the idea that Obama and McCain should go together to be briefed by Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Asked whether he'd be willing to take such a trip, McCain told the AP: "Sure. It would be fine."
"I go back every few months because things are changing in Iraq," he said. McCain questioned whether Obama has ever been briefed by Petraeus [Just a little, but it didn't mean anything]. "I would also seize that opportunity to educate Senator Obama along the way."
Hmmm. Somehow I get the sense that "educate" wasn't really the verb he wanted to use in that sentence. But now the question is, if one politician asks another politician to go on a date to a war zone, which one pays for the bulletproof vests?

VOIP is largely illegal in Africa, says expert
VOIP is largely illegal in Africa, says expert
Balancing Act CEO Russell Southwood says although Botswana and Cape Verde recently moved in the direction of legalising voice over IP (VOIP) services in Africa, they are still part of a small group of African countries to have done so.
'There are only 10 African countries that have legalised VOIP,' he says. According to an ITWeb report, VOIP is the Internet Protocol (IP) technology that allows voice information to be sent in digital form, rather than using the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network. A major advantage of VOIP and Internet telephony is that it avoids the tolls charged by ordinary telephone services. However, Southwood says the lack of a legal framework for VOIP to operate shows incumbent telecommunications players in Africa, be they fixed or mobile, want to retain their stronghold on the market. As to whether VOIP is automatically illegal if it is not specifically legalised, Southwood says: 'In Anglophone countries, law relies more on custom and practice, and it has tended to be argued that gateway licences make VOIP illegal for all but those operating under the licence.'

Beograd, Serbia (PRWEB) May 23, 2008 -- GoIP International has now established a local Eastern European office in Beograd, Serbia, lead by Srdjan Djordjevic - a seasoned telecom professional to market and sell GoIP's "VoIP in a Box" solution to ISP's, Carriers, MVNO's and ITSP's. GoIP International's "VoIP in a Box" white label platform enables any service provider to offer personalized and advanced Voice over IP services to their customers.
After multiple successful deliveries of our "VoIP in a Box" solutions, we felt it was now time to expand and setup a strong local presence in the growing Eastern European broadband market to support the growing demand for VoIP services, explains Ivan Solvason, Founder and CEO of GoIP International.
VoIP is a service highly adopted in the Eastern European countries were VoIP is legal. Only a few countries still have blocked VoIP (Serbia and Belorussia), but we expect these markets to develop over the short term, opening up for new VoIP business
Each day - 100.000 new broadband subscribers sign up for services, where 40% of those origins from the Eastern European market. This market is growing with incredible speed and most ISP's - offering Wimax, ADSL or Wi-Fi broadband is currently looking at GoIP's private label "VoIP in a Box" solution, to bundle their offering with innovative VoIP services to increase ARPU.
"The GoIP International 'VoIP in a Box' platform is a proven VoIP platform that has been in commercial operation for more than 4 years. Only a few countries still have blocked VoIP (Serbia and Belorussia), but we expect these markets to develop over the short term, opening up for new VoIP business," explains Srdjan Djordjevic, Director of GoIP Eastern Europe. "Another factor for our success is the high price of local Telco's, lots of immigrants wanting to call international, being offered a complete VoIP solution - allowing everyone to communicate in high quality, at much lower cost with additional services," he explains.
"At this moment, some of the Eastern European countries are actually ahead compared to some markets in Western Europe (mostly VoIP on WiMAX)," explains Mr. Djordjevic.

Britain law says mesothelioma deaths “unnatural”
Britain law says mesothelioma deaths “unnatural”
As the annual toll of people sick and dying from asbestos continue to rise, and as if bereaved families of mesothelioma victims are not suffering enough, an odd law in Britain brings uniformed policemen visiting their homes with flashing lights within hours of the patient’s death.
Considered an unnatural cause of death—like murder—mesothelioma requires official police investigation, identifying the body, and rough questioning by officers not trained in understanding bereavement. These things distress the sad families even more. Fortunately, the British Lung Foundation is working to change the situation, though it’s expected to take quite a while.
Meanwhile, if you or a loved one are suffering from advanced mesothelioma, consider using some or all of the treatments recommended to help ease your your pain and discomfort.

Avoid Further Mesothelioma Injury Through Prompt Treatment
Avoid Further Mesothelioma Injury Through Prompt Treatment
injury can be classified into three main groups, Pleural (chest), Peritoneal (abdominal) and Pericardial (heart). All three types of Mesothelioma injury are mainly cause through exposure to an Asbestos related substance.
Mesothelioma injury arises when the Mesothelioma cells surrounding the lungs, heart, or abdominal organs become cancerous. The Mesothelioma cells change to form nodules, which can then clump together to form a tumor, or tumors around the organ.
In more extreme cases of Mesothelioma Cancer, the Mesothelioma tumor can break through the walls of the organs that it surrounds and cause internal damage to the organ. Also, in some cases the Cancer can travel through the blood stream and affect other organs, not directly surrounded by the original Mesothelioma Cancerous Cells.
The origins of Mesothelioma injury begin when a person is exposed to an asbestos related substance. The person either inhales the Asbestos fibers, or the fibers enter the skin. These fibers either lodge in the lungs, or travel through the body and affect the heart, or abdominal organs.
The bodies natural defense system will attempt to eradicate the fibers from the body, through attempts to expel the fibers. However, some fibers will become lodged in the Mesothelioma cell layers that provide a protective layer around the lungs, heart and abdominal area.
Over time, the Mesothelioma cells surrounding the fibers, can change consistency and become cancerous. It is at this stage that the Mesothelioma injury begins to occur, as it turns into Mesothelioma.
However, Mesothelioma injury also includes the conditional affects that occur as a result of having Mesothelioma Cancer. Some of these conditional affects include, immune deficiency, which can lead to a slow break down of the bodies defense system.
Once the bodies defense system begins to break down the body can become subject to colds and other such illnesses. The overall affects of having Mesothelioma Cancer can lead to an array of Mesothelioma injuries and has the potential to cause major organ failure.
In order to prevent the adverse affects of Mesothelioma injury, Mesothelioma doctors have been implementing various treatments that aim to prevent further damage. Some of these treatments include, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immune augmentative therapy.
In regard to Mesothelioma Cancer, Surgery aims to remove the Cancerous Mesothelioma cells, while chemotherapy uses drugs to kill the Cancerous cells. Radiation therapy also aims to eliminate the Mesothelioma cells, while immune augmentative therapy aims to restore the body’s natural immune system to a level in which it can be effective in helping to fight the effects of Mesothelioma Cancer.
All of these treatment methods are aimed at preventing further Mesothelioma injury to the patient. If you, or someone you know, have been diagnosed with Mesothelioma Cancer, ensure that you seek immediate treatment to prevent the affects of Mesothelioma Cancer and to avoid further Mesothelioma injury.

Defence cuts: a warning to Obama
Defence cuts: a warning to Obama
As Hillary Clinton so brilliantly reminded us, next week will mark the 40th anniversary of Bobby Kennedy's assassination in the kitchen of the now-demolished Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The alleged killer, a Palestinian immigrant with the implausible name of Sirhan Sirhan, was sentenced to death by gas chamber until the California legislature had second thoughts and commuted all such punishments to life. As a result, Sirhan still resides in Corcoran prison along with that other bête noire of the 1960s, Charles Manson.
Now I've never been much of a conspiracy theorist, but it doesn't take much of an imagination to understand why an anti-war Democratic candidate such as Kennedy could find himself with some - how can I put this? - “well-trained” enemies in LA. As much as the city is famous for its actors and movie studios, its economy is far more dependent on designing and building new and ingenious ways to kill people.
So was Sirhan a random lunatic, or was he a Manchurian Candidate - an agent of those who feared that Kennedy would bring a halt to the war in Vietnam, thus causing the Pentagon's gravy train to hit the buffers? A new documentary, entitled RFK Must Die, inevitably suggests the latter, citing unexplained bullet holes in the ceiling from a possible second gunmen, and evidence that Sirhan - who kept writing “RFK Must Die” in his diary - was hypnotised. It sounds like the kind of film that Mrs Clinton, with her belief in a “vast right-wing conspiracy”, would enjoy.
Then again, if LA's defence contractors were in the habit of bumping off anyone who cut their funding, her husband would surely be lying under a headstone in Arlington National Cemetery by now. After all, when Bill Clinton took his red pen to Cold War defence budgets in the 1990s, he caused a mini-Armageddon in Southern California. Hundreds of thousands of defence workers left to find work in other states, sending house prices into a slump that almost lasted a decade.
LA's defence industry began to improve only after 9/11, and is now booming like it's 1989. Indeed, California gets about 15 per cent of all Iraq-bloated US defence spending; that works out at as much as $30 billion a year, by my Wikipedia-aided calculations.
But there are big and potentially candidate-endangering differences between now and 1994, as both Mrs Clinton and Barack Obama are no doubt aware. After all, Bill Clinton simply continued Pentagon cuts that were already under way. This time, whoever ends the war in Iraq will be doing it cold - and in an economy that needs all the help it can get. And would you want to be the man or woman responsible for taking $91 billion a year away from hundreds of thousands of the world's most talented killers, many of them veterans, who have access to the very latest in weapons technology? Me neither.

Obama says won't guarantee Ahmadinejad a meeting
Obama says won't guarantee Ahmadinejad a meeting
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama underscored his willingness to talk to leaders of countries like Iran that are considered U.S. adversaries but said that does not necessarily mean an audience with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Obama, the Democratic Party front-runner vying to face Republican Sen. John McCain in the November race for the White House, has said he was willing to meet with leaders of countries such as Iran, Syria, Cuba and Venezuela without preconditions.
But McCain has criticized that view, saying that sitting down with someone like Ahmadinejad would give the Iranian president a spotlight and send the wrong signal to U.S. allies such as Israel.
Iran does not recognize Israel's existence and Ahmadinejad has called the country a "stinking corpse."
Obama, an Illinois senator, said Iranian presidential elections in 2009 would be a factor in considering the timing of any meetings, as would considerations of who wields the power.
"There's no reason why we would necessarily meet with Ahmadinejad before we know that he was actually in power. He's not the most powerful person in Iran," Obama told reporters while campaigning in New Mexico.
Under Iran's system of clerical rule, the Islamic Republic's religious establishment has final say in all state matters.
Republicans have accused Obama of inconsistency because he and his aides have emphasized that, while there would be no "preconditions" for potential presidential meetings with adversaries, there would be extensive staff-level preparations.
In the case of Iran, Obama said, "Preparation means that there are low-level talks in which there's clarity about our concerns around the nuclear weapons program but that we're willing to listen to their perspective."
"They claim that they don't want to develop a weapons but it's all for civilian use. I don't believe them," he said. "I think they are pursuing weapons. But that would be a topic of discussion and I would present evidence that would indicate to them there are other means of developing civilian nuclear capacity," he said.

McCain invites Obama to Iraq
Obama hasn't been since the surge
McCain says they should go together
US presidential election: Obama v McCain (v Clinton)
DID someone say road trip?
Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain has offered to take his likely Democractic counterpart Barack Obama to Iraq to "educate him" on the real situation there.
Senator McCain has said Senator Obama has not been to Iraq in more than two years, since before the so-called troops surge announced by President George W. Bush at the start of 2007.
He has said the country has been transformed since then and Senator Obama cannot have a credible policy on Iraq unless he returns there to see the improvements in security.
"Look at what happened in the last two years since Senator Obama visited and declared the war lost," Senator McCain has told the Associated Press. "He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq and he has wanted to surrender for a long time."
"If there was any other issue before the American people, and you hadn't had anything to do with it in a couple of years, I think the American people would judge that very harshly."
Senator McCain supports a long-term US military commitment in Iraq, but Senator Obama wants to start withdrawing troops.
The Republican candidate once spoke of a "100-year" deployment, but later claimed he was just using the figure to make the point that he was thinking many years ahead.
A supporter of Senator McCain floated the idea of a joint visit over the weekend. On cue, Senator McCain said he was supportive of the idea.
"I would also seize that opportunity to educate Senator Obama along the way," he said.
Iraq policy is shaping up as one of the key battlegrounds between the two sides in the November general election. Polls show most Americans oppose the war and its handling by Mr Bush.
Senator McCain, a former PoW, will seek to run as the national security candidate and paint Senator Obama as too inexperienced for the top job.
But before he deals with that, Senator Obama must fight his way past Hillary Clinton to formally claim the Democractic nomination. She too is painting him as too inexperienced to be trusted with the presidency.
A spokesman for Senator Obama did not directly accept or decline Senator McCain's offer.

McCain And Obama Campaign in New Mexico
McCain And Obama Campaign in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, May 26 -- The two leading candidates for president made Memorial Day pilgrimages on Monday to this critical swing state, where a closely divided electorate may help determine the outcome of the 2008 battle for the White House.
The presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), used the backdrop of the state's veterans memorial in Albuquerque to pledge his fealty to the military and to once again make clear his determination to achieve victory in the Iraq war. The Democratic front-runner, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), went to Las Cruces and praised the "spirit" of America's diverse fighting corps, which he called the source of the military's true strength.
Each is eager to tilt the state to his their column after a decade in which New Mexico voters have made the state one of the most closely watched in presidential elections. Democrat Al Gore won the state in 2000, edging George W. Bush by a little more than 300 votes. Bush won in 2004 over John F. Kerry by barely a percentage point. Now both Obama and McCain see the state's five electoral votes as part of their strategy.
Neither candidate used the solemn day to launch political attacks, despite the increasingly sharp-edged comments from both camps about foreign policy experience and the competing veterans benefits bills working their way through Congress.
Before several hundred veterans and military families at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial, McCain asserted that the new GI Bill sponsored by Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) and supported by Obama will drive soldiers out of the armed services at a time when the country is trying to expand the size of the military.
McCain said the bill, which would increase benefits for veterans after they serve one tour of duty, is a way of offering the nation's "deep appreciation" for those who have served. But the Vietnam War veteran and former prisoner of war predicted that Webb's bill would reduce the military's retention rate by 16 percent.
"Encouraging people to choose to not become noncommissioned officers would hurt the military and our country very badly," McCain said.
The two presidential contenders have clashed repeatedly about the GI Bill, with Obama criticizing McCain for supporting a less-generous alternative to Webb's measure. McCain has fired back over the past several days, calling into question Obama's experience and credibility on the issue, though he did not criticize Obama directly on Monday.
In a speech delivered before an invitation-only town hall meeting at a ranching museum, Obama did not mention McCain or Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), who campaigned in Puerto Rico ahead of a Democratic primary there on Sunday. But in a nearly hour-long speech largely about improving benefits for veterans, he made clear his support for Webb's bill and said Congress would override a threatened veto by President Bush.
Obama, who did not serve in the military, told the nearly 200 former service members who flanked him that he spoke before them "with deep humility."
"My grandfather marched in Patton's Army, but I cannot know what it is to walk into battle like so many of you," he said. "My grandmother worked on a bomber assembly line, but I cannot know what it is for a family to sacrifice like so many of yours have. I am the father of two young girls, and I cannot imagine what it is to lose a child."
Obama was introduced by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who endorsed Obama earlier this year after ending his bid to become the nation's first Hispanic president. "A once-in-a-generation leader," Richardson called Obama before taking a seat on a stool, where he remained perched beside the candidate.
Richardson's presence underscored the importance of the Latino vote in the state, which has half a million Hispanics among its registered voters. Obama has struggled to gain the support of Hispanics in his primary battle against Clinton, and his ability to win over the group by November is likely to determine whether he can capture Western states with large Latino populations, such as New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada, where Obama will campaign Tuesday.
"These are going to be important battleground states," Obama said. "I think we can win in the West. I think that Governor Richardson has offered a model in New Mexico that is applicable in Nevada, is applicable to Colorado."
McCain's history of promoting immigration reform is expected to serve him well in states with significant Latino populations, though the Arizonan may suffer from the hard-line stand many in his party have taken toward illegal immigrants.
McCain released a Web ad aimed at Hispanic veterans on Monday in which the senator says that Latinos fought in Vietnam and are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that some "love this country so much that they're willing to risk their lives in its service in order to accelerate their path to citizenship."

Obama Moves on to General Election Before Primaries Conclude
Obama Moves on to General Election Before Primaries Conclude
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was campaigning in New Mexico today, and this week he will also hit Nevada and Colorado.
These are states that have already held their primaries -- Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., won New Mexico, she won Nevada, though Obama won more delegates, and Obama won Colorado.
Is the Democratic primary season over? No, it's not. But Obama is signaling that he has moved on to the general election.
Puerto Rico and its 55 pledged delegates are up for grabs Sunday, and Montana and South Dakota will hold their contests -- with a combined 31 pledged delegates available -- on Tuesday, June 3. Obama will spend time in all three states, but he will also be spending time in these general election states, instead of spending time in the primary states.
So, is it presumptuous for Obama to be campaigning in states other than the three holding contests this week?
Depends who you ask.
Certainly the math is tough, if not impossible, for Clinton.
But then again, what signal does it send that Obama is taking time he could be spending in PR, MT, and SD, focused on the general election? Certainly that signal is something his campaign wants to be sending. They want everyone, especially the media and the 200-plus uncommitted superdelegates, to say this is all over.
But we don't know what the Democratic National Committee's rules and bylaws committee will decide to do on Saturday, when it rules on the Michigan and Florida contests.
The ruling will likely mean the number of delegates needed to win the nomination will change.
And what happens if 900,000 Puerto Ricans turn out on Sunday and vote 70-30 for Clinton? Won't that seriously buttress her popular vote argument so that she doesn't have to rely on that fuzzy math where she gives herself 320,000 votes from Michigan and gives Obama zero?
And what happens if Obama doesn't win Montana or South Dakota, states he's expected to put in his column? Will he regret his time in Las Cruces?
The math is the math, yes, but Obama acting as if this is all a done deal certainly might rub some Democrats the wrong way. What say you? Is he being arrogant or pragmatic? Presumptuous or wise?

Get Cash Quickly With A Cash Advance Loan
Get Cash Quickly With A Cash Advance Loan
If you were faced with a choice between a quick source of cash and a slow source of cash, which one would you choose? If you are like most other people, the chances are that you would choose the former choice. I know I would! This is especially important when the need that you are facing is of the urgent kind.
When this happens, what is the first step in your plan of action? If I were you, I would definitely consider a cash advance loan. This loan is basically a short term loan that has been designed to meet the urgent, albeit temporary, financial needs of the average worker.
What makes a cash advance loan a quick source of cash? First of all, most cash advance loan providers operate online. This means that the transactions involved are all done electronically. This, in turn, translates into very fast processing times. Compare this with a traditional loan and you will fully grasp the implications of the speed.
Another thing that makes a cash advance loan a very fast source of cash is the fact that cash advance loan lenders do not requite a credit check. We all know about – and probably dread – credit checks. The results of the check notwithstanding, the mere fact that a credit check is carried out means long delays to the loan process. With this step in the loan process removed, the waiting time for a cash advance loan is shortened considerably.
So what do you need in order to apply for a cash advance loan? You merely need two tools – a computer and an Internet connection. Once you have these two things, then you are good to go. Merely look for a cash advance loan provider that you think will suit your needs the best and then fill out their application form online. Once you send in your cash advance loan application, you will have to wait for an hour or so for the reply. Without the credit check coming into play, you will most definitely get approved as long as you meet the following requirements:
-be a resident or citizen of Australia
-be at least 18 years old
-have a regular source of income, such as a job or a self-run business
-have a current bank account.
Once you get word that your cash advance loan is approved, you can expect to get the cash in your bank account very shortly. The waiting time will depend on the specific cash advance loan provider that you are dealing with and sometimes, on other factors as well. However, the average waiting time for the cash advance loan release is about 24 hours – sometimes less, sometimes more.
As you can see, there is probably nothing available in the financial market today from which you can avail of cash as quickly as you can from a cash advance loan. More than the speed, the convenience makes a cash advance loan a very feasible source of cash when faced with an urgent financial need.

What is a Cash Advance and How Are They Regulated?
What is a Cash Advance and How Are They Regulated?
Some of us may not know what a cash advance is and how it is regulated in some countries like the United States.A payday loan (also called a paycheck advance or payday advance) is a small, short-term loan that is intended to cover a borrower’s expenses until his or her next payday. Typical loans are between $100 and $500 and are due in two weeks, with interest rates of up to 400% APR. On a two-week loan, fees average $15 for each $100 lent. The loans are also sometimes referred to as cash advances, though that term can also refer to cash provided against a prearranged line of credit such as a credit card.
In the United States, most states have usury laws which forbid interest rates in excess of a certain APR. Some payday lenders have succeeded in getting around usury laws in some states by forming relationships with banks chartered in a different state with no usury ceiling (such as South Dakota or Delaware). This practice has been referred to as “rate exportation”, the “lender/servicer” model, or the “rent-a-bank” model. Under the legal doctrine of interest-rate exportation, established by Marquette Nat. Bank v. First of Omaha Corp. 439 U.S. 299 (1978), the loan is governed by the laws of the state where the bank is chartered. This is the same doctrine that allows credit card issuers based in South Dakota and Delaware — states that abolished their usury laws — to offer credit cards nationwide. As federal banking regulators became aware of this practice, they began prohibiting these partnerships between commercial banks and payday lenders. The FDIC still allows its member banks to participate in payday lending, but it did issue guidelines in March 2005 that are meant to discourage long term debt cycles by transitioning to a longer term loan after six payday loan renewals. As a result, no federally insured banks engage in the business of payday lending as of 2007 using an agency model.
A cash in advance is helpful especially when the person is really in dire need of money. Just be careful what company will you avail of your cash advance. Many companies are hard to deal with and sometimes will give you problem. Look at the pedigrees on their websites and from user experiences just to find out if they are reputable.

Fax Free Bad Credit Payday Loan
Fax Free Bad Credit Payday Loan
Fax free bad credit payday loan is a hassle free procedure to get quick cash to meet an emergency cash need. You can get cash advance series even if you have a bad credit history without faxing any document or having a credit check. Bankruptcy or foreclosure is not a hurdle in getting bad credit payday loan.
No Credit Check
Bad credit advance cash does not check your credit to qualify you for the loan. Lenders just verify that whether you are able to repay the loan or not. When you compare it with personal loan or other traditional loans, you will find it very easy and convenient. However, interest rates of bad credit payday loan are much higher as compared to other personal loans. However, this is understandable. As these loans are high-risk short-term loans, therefore the lenders try to minimize their risk by charging higher interest rates for the loans.
Simple Procedure
Procedure for getting the loan is very simple. Several online companies offer payday cash that do not ask for faxing the documents. It is possible to apply online with any of these companies. All you have to do is fill an online form. Your personal information, name of your employer and pay details and bank account details is all that you need to fill the application form for instant online payday loans. These online companies process applications very fast. In some cases, payday loans are sanctioned immediately and you get the required amount of money in your account within an hour of applying for bad credit loan.
It is possible to borrow from the bad credit cash advance series for the amount up to 1000 dollars. Some companies lend even more amount of money. However, you should always keep in mind that payday loans are meant for a short-term emergency cash need. You should not consider it as a regular source of borrowing the money. Borrowing money without a reasonable and sufficient requirement will cost you a lot of money.
Minimize the Cost
Before applying for payday loan, do your research thoroughly. Compare the interest charges of different online lending companies. Some companies offer discounted interest rates for new customers. However, they may charge you a higher interest rate if you have a bad credit rating. As interest rates are higher and interest accrues every day, you should borrow minimum possible amount. Furthermore, delay borrowing until the very last day to minimize the cost of the loan.
Repayment of this type of payday loan is also very simple. Borrowed amount plus interest charges are automatically withdrawn from you bank account when you receive you paycheck.

Using A Payday Loan As A Bridge
Using A Payday Loan As A Bridge
Bridges have always symbolised positive things in life. Bridges make ways for people to overcome and overlook their differences. They help people get from one side to another. They enable people to reach their destination in a much easier way. When it comes to finances, there is something that we can liken to a bridge – a payday loan.
A payday loan can function as a bridge between two paydays. We all know how the hard economic times are affecting every working person around the world and those in the United Kingdom are hardly exempt from this. As such, there are times when the average person finds himself without cash to spend for important needs in between paydays. It is but natural and nothing to be ashamed of, really. The important thing is to be able to deal with the financial gap efficiently and effectively.
And that is where a payday loan can function very well. Being a short term loan, a payday loan is meant to deal with temporary cash shortages that need to be addressed immediately. More than this, a payday loan involves relatively small amounts of money – manageable amounts of money. As such, a payday loan is expected to be paid back within a relatively short amount of time as well. This usually means that the first payment would be due on the borrower’s next payday.
A payday loan is perfect for bridging that gap between paydays as they can be availed of in a very short period of time – especially when it is compared to other types of loans. In general, you can apply for a payday loan, have it approved, and receive your money within 24 hours. This time period varies from one payday loan lender to another but the time period plays around this figure. As you can see, this short period of time makes a payday loan the most convenient choice for financial shortages that need to be dealt with quickly.
Another feature of a payday loan is that you can determine exactly how much you will owe the payday loan lender at the outset. This is because a payday loan does not depend on fluctuating interest rates. The idea behind a payday loan is to charge a fixed fee for every certain amount borrowed. So how does it work exactly? For example, a certain payday loan lender charges £10 for every £100 borrowed. If you borrow £500, you will then be charged £50 on top of the loan amount. It is that simple! Following this line of reasoning, it is very easy for you to determine exactly how much you can borrow and how much you can afford to pay back when your next pay cheque arrives.
So, the next time that you find yourself wondering how on earth you can make your pay cheque last till the next payday comes around, try looking into a payday loan. The chances are that you will be able to bridge that gap between paydays with no problems at all.

Should Obama pick Clinton as veep?
The question of the hour seems to be: Should Barack Obama put Hillary Clinton on the ticket?
The idea of a Democratic "dream ticket," of course, has been out there a long time. It originated, you may recall, when Clinton began trailing Obama, and the Clinton camp floated the idea of a Clinton-Obama ticket to persuade voters they could vote for her and get him, too.
More recently it's come up as the natural consequence of one of the closest nomination battles in history. When a fight is this close, with the loser generating enormous support and passion in her own right, there's a certain logic to simply putting both candidates on the ticket. (The satirical newspaper The Onion suggested the possibility of a "nightmare ticket," featuring Obama, McCain and Clinton.)
The speculation has been fueled further by a couple of recent news reports. The New York Times suggested that Bill Clinton would like his wife to be Obama's running mate if she is not the nominee. CNN reported that extremely preliminary talks have begun between the two camps about an Obama-Clinton ticket. My sense is that there is no serious attempt, as yet, to make this happen.
The advantages of an Obama-Clinton ticket are obvious. Hillary Clinton has sparked great enthusiasm among her supporters, including older women. Combined with the passion for Obama among young, African-American and well-educated voters, they would jointly be a formidable electoral force. In addition, Clinton has proved stronger than Obama during the primaries in a series of big swing states, from Ohio to Pennsylvania to West Virginia.
More to the point, if Clinton loses the nomination, polls suggest some of her supporters would sit out the election, refusing to support Obama. At a minimum, they would not work for Obama's election, and they might even vote for Republican John McCain. These polls should be taken with a healthy dose of salt, since they're being conducted in the heat of the fight, and the great majority of Democrats are likely to rally around the nominee once there is one. Nontheless, the danger is real, and putting Clinton on the ticket would avoid it.
But the downsides of an Obama-Clinton ticket are equally clear. For one thing, personal tensions between Obama and Clinton seem to have grown throughout the campaign. It's not clear that Obama would have any interest in having a powerhouse like Clinton, with her own power base, as his Number Two. On top of that, Obama would have to contend with former President Bill Clinton, both as a candidate and, if he won the White House, as president. Suffice it to say that Bill Clinton's agenda might not always be the same as Obama's.
Beyond that, Hillary Clinton is a polarizing figure with a lot of baggage, and Obama presumably would not want to add that to his campaign. In some ways, putting Clinton on the ticket would undermine his basic message--that he is about the future and about change. The former first lady of a previous administration hardly helps him make that point.
The danger for Obama, and the Democrats, is that Clinton could decide to force the issue. If Clinton lets it be known publicly that she wants the job, and more than that, believes that it's owed to her, it would create serious problems for Obama. It would confront him with the choice of either putting Clinton on the ticket, whether he wants to or not, or arousing the bitterness of her supporters if he snubs her.

Obama, McCain to reach out to veterans today
Obama, McCain to reach out to veterans today
WASHINGTON (AP) — Anti-war Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, a strong backer of the Iraq conflict, were reaching out to veterans on Monday, the country's Memorial Day holiday, as the presidential candidates inched closer to a likely faceoff in the November general election.
Obama's longshot rival for the Democratic nomination, Hillary Rodham Clinton, continued to campaign Monday in Puerto Rico. The U.S. Caribbean territory's primary next week is one of just three left as the intense battle for the Democratic race begun in January winds down.
On Sunday, Obama struck a conciliatory note with McCain, whom he had been hammering for days, and urged unity in service of a greater good in a speech to university graduates.
Obama was filling in for U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last week and had planned to deliver the graduation address at Wesleyan University. Kennedy has endorsed Obama over Clinton and has campaigned for him.
"We may disagree as Americans on certain issues and positions, but I believe we can be unified in service to a greater good. I intend to make it a cause of my presidency, and I believe with all my heart that this generation is ready and eager and up to the challenge," Obama told the graduating class of 2008.
Obama spent much of the week criticizing McCain, the Republican presumptive nominee, for opposing a college aid bill for military veterans, part of a strategy to link the conservative Republican to the deeply unpopular Bush administration. But he stepped back from the topic ahead of the Memorial Day holiday honoring fallen U.S. servicemen and women.
On Monday, Obama was holding a town hall meeting with veterans in Las Cruces, New Mexico. McCain visiting a memorial for veterans, also in New Mexico.
Over the weekend, McCain turned his attention to the search for a vice presidential running mate. He was hosting at least three potential running mates at his home in Sedona, Arizona — Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and his former key rival, ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Clinton, meanwhile, was in Puerto Rico, where she hopes for a big primary victory June 1, Clinton told churchgoers that faith has sustained her through her arduous and faltering duel with the ascendant Obama.
"If I had listened to those who had been talking over the last several months we would not be having this campaign in Puerto Rico today," she said, alluding to calls during the past few months for her to drop out of the race and support Obama.
Clinton is trailing Obama and has almost no chances of getting the Democratic nomination. Some prominent Democrats have been calling for her to step down, fearing that a protracted nomination battle might ruin the party's chances in November.
The latest to do so was former President Jimmy Carter, who said Sunday during an interview with Sky News in London that Clinton should abandon her battle by early June.
But the former first lady spoke of her determination to stay in the race despite trailing Obama, who picked up three more superdelegates in Hawaii on Sunday, giving him a total of 1,977 delegates, just 49 delegates short of the 2,026 needed to clinch the nomination. Clinton has 1,779.
After Puerto Rico, there are just two primaries left: Montana and South Dakota on June 3.
Puerto Rico has 55 delegates. Clinton is expected to win there, thanks partly to her ties to the large Puerto Rican community in her home state of New York.
Meanwhile, a third party on Sunday officially chose a former Republican congressman to be its candidate. Former Rep. Bob Barr will run on the Libertarian Party ticket in November. A third-party candidate has not won the presidency in the country's modern history, but they have sometimes siphoned off voters from one of the two main party candidates.

Sawtooth Mountains
This memorial day weekend seems to be bringing out the American Spirit. Thus we thought we’d show you one of the more beautiful American regions, the Sawtooth Mountains which are located in the Sawtooth National forest in beautiful Minnesota.
The mountains rise up out of one of our Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and are a basically uniform height. If you are ever up in Minnesota, I personally recommend you visit the National park and take in its exquisite beauty. So on this Memorial Day weekend, Instead of sitting aroung on the couch all day watching movies, get outside and enjoy nature.
The Sawtooth Mountains are a range of low, serrated ridges situated on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the U.S. state of Minnesota.
The Sawtooth Mountains rise from Lake Superior at angles between 8 and 20 degrees and drop off steeply on their north sides. They received their name as a result of their relatively uniform size, angles, and regularity of spacing; seen from Lake Superior to the east, “the visible crest line thus presents a remarkable profile, resembling the teeth of an immense saw.”
Notable hills and mountains in this range include Carlton Peak, Mount Northrop, Chester Peak, Mount Josephine, Moose Mountain, Mount Reunion, Disappointment Mountain, Prospect Mountain, and others not named here. The mountains extend down to the Lake Superior Shore to present spectacular lakefront bluffs, including Silver Cliff, Castle Danger, Palisade Head, and Shovel Point.

UFC 84: Ill Will was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on May 24, 2008, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The card featured the return of Sean Sherk, who was suspended and stripped of his UFC lightweight title after he tested for steroids at UFC 73. He faced B.J. Penn, who had since won the vacated title. The card also featured what purportedly was Tito Ortiz's last bout in the UFC in the foreseeable future

UFC 84 Tickets
UFC News and Info
There's been a lot of activity on the Ultimate Fighting front this past few months, folks, and UFC was among the headliners. UFC 83 was long-awaited for a couple of reasons. It was billed as an historic event, Canada's first ever Ultimate Fighting Championships, and thanks to a cancellation of a planned tournament in the UK, our neighbors in the Great White North enjoyed a corker of a tournament. UFC had its own return grudge fight built in; Serra vs St-Pierre 2. The first fight between the two had produced a first-round TKO for Serra, but St-Pierre was determined to put on a fighting show in front of his own people. And indeed, at 4:45 in the 2nd Round, St-Pierre regained the Undisputed UFC Welterweight Championship with a TKO. Serra was on his knees in Montreal, and the crowd went wild. This was a mixed martial arts event in the strictest sense, and nobody who bought UFC 83 tickets went away disappointed! This is good news for sales of UFC 84 tickets and UFC 85 tickets.
UFC 84 Tickets
And speaking of UFC 83 tickets, the event was a phenomenal sell-out; Canada's first ever tournament sold half the UFC 83 tickets in a single day to fan-club members. The ticket office wasn't even open to the general public at that point. This serves as a pointer to those wanting to buy UFC 84 tickets, to be held May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Move fast for your UFC tickets, as they are on the up and up these days.

Bad blood and good fighters highlight UFC 84 card in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS — There is bad blood in the main event, star power in the rest of the card and a number of promising newcomers. UFC 84: Ill Will offers up an intriguing mixed martial arts menu Saturday night.
B.J. (The Prodigy) Penn defends his lightweight crown against former champion Sean (The Muscle Shark) Sherk in a bout set against a backdrop of the positive steroids test that cost Sherk his belt. Sherk has denied doping but that hasn't stopped Penn from pushing Sherk's buttons in advance of the fight, labelling him a coward and a cheat.
Sherk (35-2-1) is a relentless wrestler who repeatedly smashed through the guard of jiu-jitsu black belt Hermes Franca last time out at UFC 73 in July 2007, when both fighters failed drug tests. Penn (13-4-1) is also a black belt but is considered in a class of his own when it comes to jiu-jitsu. And he showed surprising power in his January win over Joe Stevenson for the vacant title, stunning Stevenson with the second punch of the fight.
"I see both of these guys as having the potential to win this fight, for sure," said lightweight contender Kenny Florian. "I don't think it's one of those fights where there's a clearcut winner.
"Sherk makes for an interesting matchup against B.J. I think the first two rounds are going to be critical. He needs to be able to put enough pressure on B.J. to really wear on him and B.J. needs to get the job done in the first couple of rounds."
Sherk, 34, is a workout freak who has gone five rounds in three of his last five UFC fights (including a win over Florian for the vacant title at UFC 64). Penn, 29, has had cardio issues in the past but seems to have got his act together since returning to the 155-pound lightweight division.
Still Sherk is unconvinced that Penn has a new gas tank.
"He says he just woke up one day and decided 'Hey, I think I'm going to start training harder,"' he said. "Maybe he did, maybe he woke up and decided he was going to start training harder but it really is a 24-hour a day, seven-day-a-week commitment. There's no off time.
"For me, I don't even take time off my diet. I diet for 14 weeks straight, same crappy food all the time and that's what it takes to get great cardio and I just don't think he's done that. We'll find out Saturday night but I don't think it's going to be as good as he says it is."
"All I can say is I trained as hard as I could . . .I feel ready," answers Penn.
Stevenson and Jens Pulver weren't able to test Sherk's theory. Neither made it to the third round.
"The way that B.J. fights, I'm not even sure he's concerned with that (cardio)," said Florian, who could face the winner for the title if he survives Roger Huerta at UFC 87 in August. "He just goes the good old blitzkrieg, as soon as the fight starts."
Sherk, for his part, has had trouble putting opponents away. That could cost him against Penn, who won't be giving up many freebies in the cage,
Elsewhere, Tito (The Huntington Beach Bad Boy) Ortiz makes his UFC swan song before heading over to greener pastures elsewhere in the MMA world. UFC president Dana White, who once managed Ortiz, loathes the former light-heavyweight champion and has done him no favours with a farewell date with unbeaten Brazilian Lyoto Machida (12-0).
Ortiz made his feelings known at Friday's weigh-in when he wore a T-shirt that said "Dana is my Bitch!" White did not attend the weigh-in.
It will be the 21st UFC fight for the 33-year-old Ortiz, who will be mighty motivated to leave the organization on a win. Ortiz (16-5-1) is the bigger man, but is on the downside of his career. Machida, 29, is hitting his prime.
"He's the new breed of mixed martial arts fighter," said Florian. "He's good everywhere. ... He poses a lot of problems for Tito Ortiz.
"I think maybe the younger Tito Ortiz, I'd give him more of a chance but right now Tito definitely has his hands full."
"Lyoto is a very complete fighter," said fellow Brazilian Wanderlei (The Axe Murderer) Silva.
Silva, who sees Ortiz's chances as 50-50, has his own challenge in Keith (The Dean of Mean) Jardine on Saturday. The former Pride star has lost his last three fights, although admittedly they were to Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell, Dan Henderson and Mirko (Cro Cop) Filipovic.
At UFC 79 in December, Silva (31-8-1) was unable to handle the reach of the bigger Liddell. Jardine (13-4-1) is also bigger so there will be more of the same Saturday. Plus the Dean of Mean has renowned trainer Greg Jackson in his corner.
"I think he's going to win and he's going to shock a lot of people," said welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, who often trains with Jardine.
Another 205-pounder worth watching Saturday is unbeaten Brazilian Thiago Silva, who took down Houston (The Assassin) Alexander at UFC 78. Thiago Silva (11-0) is big and has a mean streak. He'll be looking to show off his trademark throat-slashing gesture with a win over UFC newcomer Antonio Mendes (14-2) of Brazil.
One-time NFL prospect Shane Carwin (8-0) makes his UFC debut in a heavyweight tilt with Christian Wellisch (9-2). The 33-year-old Carwin, an engineer to Wellisch's lawyer, is six foot three inches and 260 pounds of lean beef.
"He's phenomenal. He's a big monster," said Jackson. "He boxes well, he wrestles well. You're going to be real impressed with him."
Another newcomer is 24-year-old Croatian light-heavyweight Goran Reljic (7-0), who is matched up against Wilson Gouveia (10-4). The six-foot-three Reljic has matinee ideal good looks to go with a purple belt in jiu-jitsu under Roger Gracie. Gouveia, who hold a black belt and is coming off a KO over Jason (The Punisher) Lambert, will test his skills.
Canadian-born middleweight Ivan Salaverry (12-5-1), who now calls Seattle home, faces Rousimar Palhares (16-1) in the Brazilian grappler's first UFC fight.

Structured Settlements from Lawsuits
Structured Settlements from Lawsuits
A settlement is a large amount of money that you will be paid from winning a lawsuit. There are two types of settlements: out-of-court whereby the money is offered to you rather than continuing on with the lawsuit or a settlement awarded by the courts.
Wrongful death and injury suits are settlements that could result in large amounts of money to be paid. You may not always receive a lump sum payment for winning a big lawsuit. Most often, the settlement amount that you won would be paid out in small instalments over a number of years.
As a result, the person who is expecting a large sum of money to come to him or her will have to manage with a small check in the mail every month. So if you have planned any large expenses or instalments on the basis of your winnings, you might not be able to implement them owing to the size of your monthly instalment check.
If you would much prefer one large settlement check, there are companies that pay you the full amount of your settlement in return for your monthly instalments. You then receive all the monies owed to you immediately and don’t have to wait and save your instalment checks. You can consider it a personal loan that you don’t have to pay off because your monthly instalment covers the payment plan.
The money that you were awarded is rightfully yours. The payment where the structured settlement is being paid is now a debt that is owed you and is really being returned to you interest free. Remember not to consider it as additional income but money that is already yours.
Now that a company has purchased your settlement offer you will receive the entire sum of money at once. You may consider investing the money to generate additional income from the interest. It is definitely a better option than waiting each month to receive your monthly structured settlement.
A customized payment plan can be organized if you have not decided to receive the entire amount at once. There are many options for you to choose. For example, you may want a large portion of the money, make a down payment on a house and take the rest in instalments, or you may decide on larger instalments for a shorter period of time. You have many choices.
Customer Service Departments specialized in this area will guide you through such situations. They will give you complete information on the options available, depending on the terms of your settlement. Since each structured settlement is unique, their personalized approach to customer service will be of great benefit to you.

2008 Tax Rebate Checks
2008 Tax Rebate Checks
Who Gets What and When?
Starting May 2, some 130 million U.S. families and individuals will be getting tax rebate checks from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Here you will find answers to many of those questions, as well as resources from the IRS to help you understand the tax rebate.
Where's My Rebate? Find Out Here
The IRS has just created a handy online tool where you can check the status of your 2008 Tax Rebate payment.
IRS Announces Tax Rebate Schedule, Calculator
The IRS has announced its schedule for sending the economic stimulus tax rebate checks, with the first round of weekly payments to be completed by early July.
IRS Publishes 2008 Tax Rebate Check Details
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the final authority on who will get a tax rebate check and how much they will get, has issued these Facts about the 2008 Stimulus Payments.
IRS Launches Tax Rebate Information Center
Hoping to answer a seemingly endless number of questions about the 2008 Tax Rebates, the Internal Revenue Service has launched a helpful Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center, offering check amount scenarios, along with information especially for Social Security recipients and veterans.
Rebate-only Tax Filers May Now File for Free
Persons who are not normally required to file a tax return, but must do so this year in order to receive a 2008 tax rebate check, may now file for free by using the IRS Free File - Economic Stimulus Payment program.
Will I Have to Pay Taxes On My Rebate?
Once taxpayers began to get a handle on how big a tax rebate they would get, they started wondering if they would have to pay taxes on it next year. At last, the IRS provides the answer.
To Get $300 Tax Rebate, Kids Must Have SS Number
Among the many IRS Facts about the 2008 Stimulus Payments -- the tax rebate checks -- parents should note the fact that dependant children, including newborns, must have a Social Security number in order to qualify for the additional $300 per child tax rebate.
SSI and the Tax Rebate Checks
Based on the Economic Stimulus Bill as passed by Congress, persons with income from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) alone will not qualify for a tax rebate check.
What if I Filed Before the Tax Rebate was Approved?
Taxpayers who had already filed their 2007 federal income tax returns before the bill authorizing the income tax rebate checks became law on Feb. 13, do not need to do anything more to receive their payment, as long as they reported at least $3,000 in qualifying income, according to the latest IRS Facts about the 2008 Stimulus Payments.
Tax Rebate Checks Become Scammer's "Bait"
The IRS is warning taxpayers of a new telephone identity theft scam that uses the Tax Rebate checks as the bait.
Who Will Get Tax Rebated Checks?
Tax rebate checks will be mailed to about 117 million middle- and low-income taxpayers. Thanks to amendments made to the bill in the Senate, some 20 million retirees living on Social Security and 250,000 U.S. veterans receiving disability benefits will also get checks.
Single tax filers with adjusted gross incomes (AGI) less than $75,000 and couples filing jointly with AGIs less that $150,000 will qualify for full rebates.
Remember that your AGI is not your annual salary or income. Your AGI is your taxable income from all sources including wages, salaries, tips, interest, dividends, etc. minus IRS-allowed adjustments to income.
How Much Will You Get?
Qualifying single filers (AGI less than $75,000) will get rebates of up to $600. Qualifying couples (AGI less than $150,000) will get rebates of up to $1,200, plus $300 per dependent child, with no maximum on the number of eligible children.
Persons who owe no income taxes, but earned at least $3,000 in income from Social Security and veterans disability will get rebate checks of $300 for individuals and $600 for couples.
What if You Made More than the Maximum Income?
You will still get a check, but it will be reduced by 5-percent of the amount you earned above the AGI income caps of $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for couples.
For example: A single filer with no children and an adjusted gross income of $80,000, or $5,000 over the AGI cap, will see their rebate check reduced by $250 (5% of $5,000), and will get a check for $350, instead of $600.
At some income point above the AGI income caps, the rebate checks will phase out completely.
For example: A single filer with no kids and an adjusted gross income of $87,000, or $12,000 over the AGI cap, will not get a rebate check because it would be reduced by the full $600 (5% of $12,000).
What Do You Have to Do to Get a Check?
To get a rebate check, you must file a tax return; either a form 1040 or 1040-EZ federal tax return for tax year 2007.
Persons who do not normally not file tax returns, like retirees and disabled veterans, will have to file a 2007 tax return in order to get a rebate check.
About SSI the Tax Rebates
Based on the Economic Stimulus Bill as passed by Congress, persons with income from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) alone will not qualify for a tax rebate check.
The law authorizing the rebate checks (H.R. 5140) specifically limits qualifying income from Social Security benefits to "any amount received by the taxpayer by reason of entitlement to - (A) a monthly benefit under title II of the Social Security Act, or (B) a tier 1 railroad retirement benefit."
SSI is authorized under Title XVI of the Social Security Act, not Title II.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is funded by general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes. It is designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income by providing cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
For More Information Call the IRS
You can call the IRS at: Toll-Free, 1-800-829-1040 Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time).

Largest Lake In Central America
Largest Lake In Central America
The aboriginal name for this lake, Cocibolca, means “sweet sea”. It is the largest lake in Central America and one of the very few, or perhaps the only, freshwater lake to have sharks, although their numbers have dropped precipitously.1
The adventurous are rewarded by the splendor of volcanoes, jungle villages, placid lakes, and pristine beaches, untouched islands, like you’ll find boating in Lago de Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America and home to rare freshwater sharks. Or perhaps you’ll discover a remote surf break on the southwestern Pacific coast.2
Nicaragua is home to the largest lake in Central America locally known as Cocibolca or Lake Nicaragua. Nearly 20% of the total landmass of Nicaragua is set aside in 78 different National Parks and protected areas.3
People considered digging a canal through either Nicaragua or Panama—if they had used Nicaragua, they would have dug a canal to Lake Nicaragua (the largest lake in Central America), then another one away from it. Instead, it was dug through the Isthmus of Panama.4
The largest Central American nation, Nicaragua, is full of parks and reserves and more lakes than any other Central American nation. Located between Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south and with long coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Nicaragua is about one-third tropical rainforests and is split in half by a mountain range scattered with volcanoes.5
Also known as La Mar Dulce (the Sweet Sea), Lake Nicaragua is the largest lake in Central America and the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world. Forty-five rivers flow into the lake and it is home to the worlds only species of freshwater shark.
Lake Nicaragua is not only Central America's largest lake but, at 3,100 square miles, it is the largest body of fresh water between the Great Lakes of North America and Lake Titicaca on the Bolivia-Peru border. The aboriginal name for this lake, Cocibolca, means "sweet sea".
